Samsung Galaxy S II Globally Released

Samsung is releasing the Galaxy S II to the market. The Android Gingerbread based smartphone will be released on May 2011, by 140 operators in 120 countries. Samsung targeted 10 million units sales of the Galaxy S II. The predecessor, Galaxy S original achieved the same target, so they are aiming to continue the success.

The Galaxy S II was first released in South Korea with the price of US$ 786 and then it will released globally. The Galaxy S II will have the features like 1,2 GHz dual core processor and Super Amoled Plus screen. The Samsung gadget will challenge other relevant Android smartphones like HTC Sensation or LG Optimus 2X, and of course the Apple iPhone. The release of Galaxy S II seems to be not affected by the conflict between Samsung and Apple. As been known before, Apple is suing Galaxy S original version for the similarity of design, and Samsung also sue Apple regarding copyright infringement.

Intel Oak Trail, Designed Specially For Tablets

The fast growth of smartphone and tablet PC market is getting attention from Intel. Intel is producing a special processor for tablet PCs, and have been launched in the Intel Developer Forum (IDF) in Beijing, China. The processor is called the Oak Trail.

The Oak Trail is the successor of Intel Atom that have been used in many netbooks. The new processor is still produced with the 45 nanometer technology process, but the power consumption has been reduced up to 60% compared to its predecessor. Intel has also prepare the Cedar Trail with the 32 nanometer technology and 22 nanometer. Oak Trail and Cedar Trail is a form of commitment from Intel to continuously present personal experience into netbooks and tablets, coming with less power consumption and better performance. The first Oak trail, Z670 will come to the market on May 2011 and will be used in 35 gadgets from various vendors. OEM will use it in tablets with Windows, Android, and MeeGo OS. Many tablets now are still using ARM based platform, the presence of Oak trail will become a competitor in tablet and smartphone market. Intel have used Atom for tablets platform, but it can’t go to the level popularity of ARM in matter of efficiency and power consumption.
