Facebook Reveals Their Data Tracking Practice

In an interview, Facebook reveals their views on the practice of data tracking. As is known, this social network is often criticized with their privacy issues. For the first time, Facebook reveal the specific detail on how they track and get user’s data.

The first, Facebook determines different kinds of cookies to be inserted in the users browser, depending on their activities. For example, when someone register an account, they will get session cookie and browser cookie. If not, they will only get a browser cookie. The data tracking begin from the first time user visits Facebook. After this, whenever user access third party sites that have connectivity with Facebook – such as the ones with Share or Like button, cookie will let Facebook know about the time and the website adress accessed by the user. The tracking also include the unique characteristics in the browser and PC like IP address, screen resolution, operating system used and also the browser version. It is said that Facebook keeps monitoring all webpage visit activities of users for 90 days, deleting old entries and adding new ones. Facebook can even run some tracking when the users not logged in, also find out what sites are accessed by the users when they are not accessing Facebook, but Facebook claims to have never done this.
