As a comparison, Android needed 19 months to reach that number, while iOS needed a whole year to reach that number. But Microsoft emphasize that like other application store, the number 50,000 is not the same as the application available for the consumers. From the 50,126 applications in the Marketplace, there are around 6,000 applications are no longer available. This means that the applications that can be downloaded by the consumers are lesser than the items published. The unavailability of thousands of applications mention above is because the withdrawal from Microsoft or from the developers them selves. Microsoft describes that there are two strong reasons that levers the availability of application by the developers, the first is the increasing availability of Windows Phone Marketplace and the release of first Nokia phone with Windows Phone based.
